Here are some other posters which are very much alike this one, and follow the same codes and conventions.
2 Important Codes and Conventions of film posters -
Media Language - On most film posters there is always some text at the top of the poster telling the audience who's in the film, its usually the big stars who are written on the poster to attract audiences. Some posters also include text about how good the film is usually using quotes from newspapers or the films star rating. 'Typography' is used this is where text is enlarged or made bold to add emphasis on the poster, and drawing attention to it. For example on the top Conjuring poster; The title is larger and bolder which is expected but the text at the top saying "From the directors of saw and insidious." the words Saw and Insidious are slightly bolder, this is drawing attention to them and creating more of a buzz for the film.
Camera - The image used for the poster tell the audience what the films is like, who's in it and introducing the characters, also showing the genre. They always have someone/something in it with eye contact to whomever is looking at the poster. Its usually a 'powerful' image. high quality and excites audiences.
(Media language and Camera work together to create a successful poster, if both of these conventions aren't equally as good as the other it will lead to 'average' poster and could set a different expectation to the film)

Codes and Conventions of Film Trailers -
Media Language - Title/Logo's are usually the first things you see on a trailer, it tells you who its produced and distributed by and the name of the film. It usually says the BBFC age certificate after this to tell the audience if you're under the age limit you shouldn't carry on watch the Trailer.
Camera and Editing - The stereotypical camera work is used in trailers (E.g. Close ups, Establishing, Long shots.) These are used to help show the narrative in a clear and simple way. The editing is usually a short montage of shots as the director doesn't want too much to be given away in the trailer and stopping people from going to see the film.
Sound- Usually voice overs or non diegetic instrumental soundtracks are used, these also help tell the narrative but don't give too much away and help introduce characters, or help the story flow with the music, but also again not giving too much away on genre or type of film.
Other thing you will see in film trailers are captions and information about actors, writers, reviews, directors to help make more people want to see the film and also, the release date. These are usually seen at the end of the trailer, however if a big star is in the film that could be shown at the very beginning of the trailer.
DVD and Magazines. (Padlet)
These 3 different media products work together to help make the product recognisable, so people see it everywhere, and it reaches out to different audiences. (E.g. People who real magazines, watch TV, or go out to the cinema.) It allows everyone to known about it and helps spread the work about the film. They all need to link because if they dont, people might not know its about the same product and get confused. Linking and using different media forms also benefit each company as they will bounce off each other. For example if people watch the trailer then see the poster they will show it too friends then they might watch the trailer and then all see the film together, which will bring money in a create a bigger buzz and a wider audience.
